NEW YORK – Original Samurai swords are among the top items in a Jasper52 auction on Saturday, Nov. 4. This online-only auction, with its diverse lineup of antiques and art, showcases the rich history and cultural variety of Asia. Absentee and Internet bidding is available through LiveAuctioneers.
One for the swords bears a Kikumon’ichi stamp and was made in 1840. Crafted by Bizen Safune Zyu Yokoyama Kagano Suke Fujiwara Sukenage, the nicely signed sword (above) is expected to sell for $4,000-$6,000.
A fine 19th-century netsuke of carved boxwood depicts a young drummer wearing a ferocious shishi headpiece. The superbly carved little figure, which is signed on the bottom “SUKETADA,” is expected to bring around $1,000.”
Also from Japan is a small kogo rooster, a pottery container for incense used during a tea ceremony. This highly detailed figure is from the Meiji period (19th century) and has a $100-$115 estimate.

An Indochina lacquer painting titled Summer Wind by Pham Hau measures 60 inches wide by 27 inches high and depicts waterlilies and fauna. This artwork done in 1940 has a $4,000-$5,000 estimate.

A pair of Chinese porcelain phoenix from the late Qing Dynasty (19th century) stands about 16 inches high. The polychrome birds are estimated at 1,100-$1,200.
