NEW YORK – An exquisite selection of decorative arts items from the estate of legendary entertainment producer and talent manager Sandy Gallin will take center stage at Capo Auction Fine Art and Antiques’ sale on Saturday, Oct. 21. Absentee and Internet live bidding is available through LiveAuctioneers.

Gallin, who died in April, helped shape the careers of Barbra Streisand, Mariah Carey, Dolly Parton, Cher, Neil Diamond, Whoopi Goldberg and others, while enjoying close friendships with Elizabeth Taylor and moguls David Geffen, Barry Diller and Calvin Klein. In later years, he forged a successful second career buying, interior designing and selling dozens of multimillion-dollar estates, working on homes for show business heavyweights like Jeffrey Katzenberg. His acclaimed personal collection was spread between homes in Los Angeles and the Hamptons, with many pieces now being put on the auction block by his estate.

Items from Gallin’s personal collection will include art, sculpture, decorative pieces and home furnishings.

Two of the top items are a Henry Moore (British, 1898-1986) two-piece reclining figure in bronze (above; est. $60,000-$80,000) and a Sophia Vari (American/Greek, b. 1940) untitled 7½-inch bronze (below; est. $4,000-$6,000).

Also from the Gallin estate are an 18-inch signed Rene Lalique glass vase, Leaf and Berry design (below; est. $2,000-$3,000); and an 8-inch Rene Lalique vase in Opaline glass (est. $1,000-$1,500).

Also in the entertainment arena at this month’s auction, Capo is offering a Gilson Lavis (British, b. 1951) painting of Bruce Springsteen, circa 2006. The acrylic on canvas board painting measures 24½ by 28½ inches (est. $3,500-$4,000). Lavis is the original drummer for British band Squeeze and is currently drummer for the popular Jools Holland Rhythm and Blues Orchestra. Additional works by Lavis that Capo Auction will offer on Saturday depict Mick Jagger and Jimi Hendrix.

Other contemporary art will include a pair of M.C. Escher (Dutch, 1898-1972) prints, an Alfredo Zorrilla (Uruguay, 1927-1990) oil on canvas titled San Martin, 1986; and an Armando Angelo Gentilini (Italian, 1909-1981) oil on canvas titled La Fete des Fleurs.

In collectibles, Capo will feature a 1938 World Series champion New York Yankees team signed baseball (est. $ 2,500-$3,500).

Another decorative art highlight is a 24-inch-tall Daum Nancy acid-etched glass table lamp with matching glass shade (est. $2,500-$3,500).

Photographs by Man Ray 1920 Paris, considered by some to be one of the most important photograph books of the 20th century, is expected to sell for $800-$1,200. Published in 1934 by James Thrall Soby, Hartford, Conn., the spiral-bound book contains monochromes of Man Ray’s by the Neogravures Co.
